Emergency Shelter:
Temporary, emergency housing for victims of domestic violence and their children are provided 24-hours per day, every day of the year. We provide emergency food, hygiene items, clothing, beds and bathing facilities. We offer an emotionally supportive and safe environment.
- Program Eligibility: Any individual who has been physically abused, threatened with
abuse, is frightened to stay where they are and has no place else to go are eligible for
emergency shelter services. We are a non-discriminating shelter. Victims must be 18 years
or older, unless they have children or are emancipated by the State of Florida. - To Access the Shelter: Victims may contact the crisis lines at (386) 255-2102 for local areas or via a Statewide Hotline at: 1-800-500-1119. After an initial screening by phone, victims are met in a safe location and transported or they may drive their own car to the shelter.
- Location: The Domestic Abuse Council, Inc. has one emergency shelter in Daytona Beach. Due to the nature of the problems our residents face, the actual location is kept confidential. The shelter is heavily secured and staffed 24-hours per day.
- Length of Stay: Length of shelter stay varies upon the needs of the victim and their shelter goals/plans.
- Cost: There are no fees for shelter services.

- Program Eligibility: Homeless women with children. Other criteria include employment, employability, and schooling. Homeless individuals do not have to be a victim of family violence.
- To Access the Program: Individuals in need of housing must complete an application with the Domestic Abuse Council, Inc. they may contact (386) 255-2102 or 1-800-500-1119 for an application.
- Location: Second Choice Transitional Housing Programs are conveniently located in Daytona Beach, DeLand, and Port Orange, close to shopping and buses.
- Length of Stay: Participants may stay twenty-four months.
- Cost: Residents are required to pay a $200.00 advance with monthly rent based on 30% of their adjusted gross income.
Community Education & Professional Training:The Domestic Abuse Council, Inc.’s Community Education and Professional Training Program is designed for anyone in the community who wants to learn about domestic violence and services offered by the Domestic Abuse Council, Inc. Presentations to the public are provided, both in person and through the media, on information common to domestic violence, the prevention of such abuse, and rehabilitation for persons engaged in or subject to domestic violence. Orientation and in-service training programs to law enforcement officers, social workers, medical personnel and other professionals and paraprofessionals who come in contact with domestic violence victims is also provided.
- Program Eligibility: Community education and professional training is provided to anyone in Volusia County.
- To Access the Program: Interested parties may call (386) 257-2297 Ext: 19 weekdays 8:30 am - 4:30 pm to schedule Education and Training.
- Location: Throughout Volusia County, typically at the location of the requesting agency/organization.
- Length: Presentation length varies depending on the needs of the requesting agency/organization.
- Cost: Most programs are presented at no costs. Professional training fees vary. Donations are greatly appreciated.
- Program Eligibility: Court advocacy services are available to any victim of domestic violence.
- To Access the Program: Victims may call (386) 257-2297 ext: 16 weekdays 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. to schedule appointments.
- Location: Volusia County Courthouse or at a pre-determined location.
- Duration: Length of service is dependent on the needs of the victim.
- Cost: There is no fee for victim/court advocate services.
- Program Eligibility: Victims of domestic violence who are receiving services from the Domestic Abuse Council, Inc.
- To Access the Program: Victims may call (386) 257-2297 ext: 25 weekdays 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. to schedule a legal intake appointment.
- Location: Volusia County Court houses or at a pre-determined location.
- Length: Length of service is dependent on the needs of the victim.
- Cost: There are no fees for legal counsel; however, there may be fees affiliated with legal action/proceedings.
- Program Eligibility: The “Hugs & Love” Children’s Center is for children ages 0-17 that are residents of the Domestic Abuse Council, Inc. shelter
- To Access the Program: The shelter parent/guardian will be informed of how to access the program during case management sessions.
- Location: The Domestic Abuse Council, Inc.’s Emergency Shelter Program.
- Duration: Length of service is dependent on the time the family spends in the shelter.
- Cost: There are no fees for the “Hugs & Love” Children’s Center.
Hush Puppy Haven is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, a separate legal entity which provides temporary foster homes for pets of domestic violence survivors while they are in shelter with the Domestic Abuse Council of Volusia County. By doing this, Hush Puppy Haven can help ease the emotional stress and worry of the survivor and the children in the family, knowing their pet will be well-cared for and loved while they begin the healing process, until they can be reunited.
